different type of dispute requires different skills from an
experienced mediator. Tiernan Mediation will adapt the mediation
process to suit the dispute. We will draw on all or part of the
different styles of mediation which are summarised below.
Facilitative Mediation, “Harvard Model” Mediation
An interest based problem solving mediation where parties work
toward a mutually beneficial solution.
Where the parties rely on the mediator’s expertise to help guide the
parties. This is often used in “legal rights” cases.
This type of mediation deals with underlying causes of disputes
where part of the solution may call for changed behaviour.
Particularly useful in relationship disputes.
This mediation has a strong emphasis on bargaining often associated
with money related legal disputes and is positioning negotiation
rather than mutual interests related negotiation.
